NASP Giving

In 1972, the Indian Education Act was signed into law. This landmark piece of legislation had far-reaching implications across Indian County in that it ushered in a new era of educational sovereignty for Native American students and the schools that served them. After centuries of using educational systems as a means for eliminate the culture and history of Native students, this law began to recognize and support the revitalization of Native languages, cultures, and learning styles.

Just as the Indian Education Act ushered in a new era of educational sovereignty for Native American students and the schools that served them, the NASP brought together Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, and Native Pacific Islander students, educators, community members, family and friends in the first of what would become an ongoing continuum of NASP supports — social, academic, professional, social. For both historic events, the goal then, as it is today, is to embrace, connect, serve, and elevate the experiences of Indigenous students.

Now, as we have been doing this work for more than 55 years, we ask for your continued support for the program.
